What in the World Am I Doing?

Do you know how many travel blogs there are in the world?

Don’t worry: I don’t either. Google probably can’t even count that high. There are travel blogs for every country. There are travel blogs for cheap travel, for foodie travel, for adult beverage drinking travel, cruise travel, and for backpacking or hitchhiking travel. There are blogs for mountain-goers, surfers, those traveling with pets, and those who like to stay in high-end hotels. If you can imagine a trip or some aspect of it, there’s probably a blog for it.

So why in the world am I writing what is essentially a travel blog?

My Mom asked me to. Really. She did!

Seriously, though, Bob and I plan to spend time in and around some really great places over the next three years. We thought it would be fun to not only have a record of our travels but to be able to share those with our friends and family around the world.

We have a contract on the house, and our first adventure, “The Great Northern Trip,” is slated to begin Aug. 27—if all goes well. We will start in Portland, OR, hop up to Kodiak, AK, swing across the northern U.S. to Chicago, make a stop in Dallas, and, by early October, be heading to Ecuador. All along the way we will be exploring water (in boats, kayaks, snorkeling or diving gear, among other options), tasting wine (and beer and rum), watching birds (and other wildlife), and discovering history.

We hope you will not only follow along but will share your thoughts. Always feel free to leave comments on the blog. And by all means, if you’ve visited some place where we are or are going, please offer your best advice and recommendations.

Adventures await us all!

    1. Looking forward to getting a new camera for even better pictures — especially the birds. Did you see why I’m writing the blog?! 🙂
